Taliban in Afghan side is looking for every way to shake you down. The first check point is looking for dollar. They are looking for $100 bills over $500 so they can have their guy exchange with somoni with horrible rate. Once you pass first point and pass passport stamp, second taliban group will look for dollar. I had $2k in $50 bills. They made it a big deal and I told me I can go but asked for a gift. They wouldn’t let me go till I gave them $50 bribe. I had very positive experience traveling Afghanistan and dealing with taliban but they are super corrupt and steal at this border crossing.
