The Kapalua Coastal Trail is a stunning natural shoreline path located in Lahaina on the island of Maui, Hawaii. This trail is known for its dramatic ocean views where turquoise waves crash against rugged lava rock formations. Stretching about 2.5 miles round trip, the trail traces the coastline past isolated coves, tide pools, and native coastal vegetation, offering a rich experience of Hawaii’s unique volcanic landscape. The black lava rocks contrast vividly with the white surf, providing a striking visual of the island's geological history shaped by volcanic activity. In addition to spectacular seascapes, walkers can spot native bird species and the occasional glimpse of marine life offshore. The trail also passes by historic sites, including remnants of old sugar plantation communities and natural sea arches formed from ancient lava flow erosion. Beautiful views, best to come on a cloudy day since it’s a non shaded trail. Wear full pants or get a mosquito repellant since the trail is through bushes.

We love this trail. We make sure to come and do this walk whenever we are in Maui. It is a great way to get some exercise and walk along different terrains. It is not too difficult and can be done with kids. The only challenge is finding parking at the start which is near the restaurant Merrimans. You can pay in the lot but it is daily and costs $39. All of that said we highly recommend this walk. Great way to see different ocean views and terrains. Go get out there and let the ocean breeze catch you face.
