About This Adventure Destination

First Creek Waterfall is a refreshing natural highlight located within the Red Rock Canyon area, just a short distance from Blue Diamond, Nevada. Unlike other desert locations, this waterfall provides a rare oasis where the cascading water contrasts beautifully against the arid surroundings of the Mojave Desert. It offers visitors a peaceful retreat with a mix of rugged desert terrain and tranquil waters rarely found this close to the Las Vegas metropolitan area.

The waterfall features a gently flowing cascade emerging from a rocky outcrop into a clear, calm pool ideal for quiet moments or photography. Towering reddish sandstone cliffs frame the scene, shaped by millions of years of erosion, while native plants like Joshua trees and barrel cacti add vibrant green and spiky textures around the water’s edge. The moderate hiking trail leading to the falls winds through desert scrub and provides chances to spot local wildlife such as desert rabbits and a variety of birds, enhancing the connection to the region’s natural environment.

Beyond its natural beauty, First Creek Waterfall sits near ancient Native American petroglyphs, offering a subtle glimpse into the cultural history of the area’s original inhabitants. This blend of scenic views and historical depth makes First Creek Waterfall a fantastic destination for anyone wanting to witness a unique desert water feature combined with local heritage.

Visitors to this spot often praise the serene atmosphere and the contrast between the waterfall’s coolness and the stark desert landscape. It’s a destination uncommon in a region better known for sun-scorched rock and sprawling city lights.

Editorial Assessment

First Creek Waterfall offers a unique blend of desert beauty and tranquility, making it a delightful spot for hiking and nature lovers. Its significance to local culture and history adds to its charm, though it remains less well-known compared to more iconic destinations.

We visited in mid May. The creek was dry and we expected the waterfall and pool to be dry too. But it still had a trickle and the pool was beautiful.
