The city is beautiful, with many wonderful places; I have to go back.

Fabulous scenery. Some of the most interesting areas require some hardcore long distance hiking that we weren't up to. Still, there are some beautiful places that are easier to explore. Morro do Pai Inacio just involves a 30 minute hike up a sometimes steep rocky path but the views from the top are fantastic and you can drive up to the bottom of the hill. Mirante do Camelo is a beautiful place with fantastic views and only a short hike on level ground. Trilha do Ribeirão do Meio is an easy trail from the edge of Lencois to a large waterfall with pools. We went on a great boat trip into the Marimbus wetland from Remanso, which is a very beautiful place about a 40 minute drive from Lencois. A bit expensive but worth it. Can also be accessed from the south side near Fazenda Marimbus just north of Andaraí if you are not staying Lencois. Poco de Diabo, which is only a 30 minute drive from Lencois, is a relatively easy walk along the river to a waterfall and large pool. It's free and there are places to park and eat. All these places can be visited easily without a guide. Lencois is an attractive town almost totally geared to tourism. The Muritba park near the edge of town is nice. You can visit the waterfall with its interesting rocks in the lower part of the park for R$20. However, to enter the upper part you have to pay R$200 to hire a guide which is just ridiculous. It's not like it's the Amazon or the Himalayas. The only downside to the area is the BR242 road, the access road to the area. It is a monster truck super highway and mostly just single carriage way so you will find yourself stuck behind convoys of trucks. Practice your truck overtaking skills before going.
