Gibraltar Rock: A Scenic Wonder in Lodi, Wisconsin

Great destination! Enjoyed the open trail and peaceful outdoor atmosphere.

Up, up, up where the old rocks rise, Gibraltar stands with its head in the skies. Boot to the root, tread to the trail, climb through the timber where hawks catch a sail. Rock upon rock from a long-ago age, Wisconsin geology written page after page. Cracked, stacked, weathered and worn, standing up stubborn through thunder and storm. Climb it, wind it, wander around, leave the farm fields farther below on the ground. Higher you hike, wider the view, green rolling country meets Wisconsin blue. Then out on the bluff where the big birds glide, the world opens wide on the countryside. Fields become patches, roads become thread, while turkey vultures circle overhead. And winding along this rocky old spine, the Ice Age Trail keeps marching through time. Boot prints and root grips, switchbacks and stone, wander with others or wander alone. Come when the hardwoods are bursting with green, or when autumn goes bonkers painting the scene. Gold upon orange, crimson and flame, same ancient rock wearing colors untamed. No roller coaster, no gift-shop affair, just rock, root, ridge and ridiculously good air. Pack out your scraps, leave wild where you roam, let every fern, feather and fossil stay home. So climb toward the clouds, let curiosity steer, where the higher you wander, the farther things clear. Rock. Root. Route. Hike about. Look out. Forward through Wisconsin, one boot at a time, up Gibraltar Rock with Mr. E & Justin Thyme. Peace. Piece. Peas.

This is a hidden gem. After a roughly one mile hike up hill you find some of the most breath taking view I have seen in our state. I want to go back again. We went mid to late afternoon on a Tuesday so there was plenty of room for us to park.

Hike was about 0.8 miles uphill. Awesome scenery and views once you get to the top. Suggest bring bug spray.
