We were just 3 strangers from 3 states who decided to spend our birthdays (3/1) at Calvert Cliffs and happened to be there at the same time. None of us wore anything that indicated to others it was our birthday, this information was nonchalantly mentioned in a short, trailhead-like conversation. I call it abstract synchronicity.💫 also, I found this super awesome piece of a shark tooth just laying on the beach! Shells can be super sharp so bring some gloves.

It's a good place for a family's day out. Fossil finding is a fun activity, but it's difficult to find them. :D The trail to the beach is nice and scenic. The beach itself is not that big. There are a couple of picnic tables. I do recommend a visit.

I have many childhood memories hiking the red trail down to the shore of Calvert Cliffs State Park. Unfortunately, the Cliff area is currently closed due to a danger that they may collapse. You can still walk along the shoreline away from the cliffs and find all kinds of interesting shells. You will see turtles, ducks, and minnows along the red trail as it passes along the Marsh areas. There are porta-potties halfway down the trail just in case you need them and the parking is $5 for Maryland residents and $7 for out of state. Well worth the price considering how immaculately kept the park is. The 1.8 mile red trail is great for beginners and has a slight downward pitch to the shore and a slight upward pitch in reverse. I see families walking dogs, couples, singles and even parents pushing strollers all the way down to the beach. Bundle up if you go during the winter months as it gets chilly and breezy on the coastline. Just offshore is a liquid natural gas (LNG) Pier so tankers can pull up and refuel. This is a must see State park in Maryland!
