About This Adventure Destination

The Falls, located near Marion, South Carolina, offers an unusual and intriguing natural feature along the Little Pee Dee River. Unlike a traditional waterfall, The Falls is actually an underwater ledge where the riverbed suddenly drops, creating a noticeable change in depth and a series of small rapids when water levels are low. This distinctive geological formation contributes to the flowing water’s varied behavior, making it a notable spot for those interested in river dynamics and fishing.

Surrounded by gently rolling landscapes and bordered by lush cypress trees draped in Spanish moss, this area reflects the peaceful charm of the South Carolina Lowcountry. The combination of dense greenery and the river’s subtle roar sets a calm and refreshing atmosphere. Unlike more common tourist waterfalls, The Falls is a low-profile natural occurrence that draws attention from local anglers thanks to its excellent fish habitat—this sharp drop in the riverbed attracts bass and catfish, making it a favored fishing spot.

Though The Falls does not feature a vertical cascade, its unique underwater structure is a rare find for this part of Marion County. Fishermen appreciate the challenge of catching fish influenced by the swift currents above this underwater ledge. This feature adds an interesting touch to an otherwise tranquil river landscape.

The spot holds value to nature enthusiasts who enjoy quiet observation rather than crowds and photographic peaks. It also offers a glimpse into South Carolina’s river ecology and presents an authentic outdoor experience often missed by casual visitors. This subtle yet impressive natural phenomenon invites those seeking a slower pace near Marion and the surrounding region.

Let me clear this up. The Falls is an underwater area on the Little Pee Dee river, that has a drastic depth change. When the river is at 4 feet or lower, it appears as a drop off, and creates small rapids. Wonderful fish attractant for fishermen
