About This Adventure Destination

Bonita Lakes Park, located in Meridian, Mississippi, offers visitors a refreshing outdoor experience with its expansive water views and green spaces. This local favorite stands out in the region for its sizable lake and well-kept trails that present a blend of peaceful scenery and activity options for all ages. The park provides a much-appreciated getaway from city life, inviting walkers, runners, and families to enjoy its pleasant environment year-round.

The central feature is the large Bonita Lake, formed by a reservoir with water stretching through multiple connected sections. The paved walking path loops about 1.2 miles, giving gentle lakeside panoramas, while additional hiking trails provide more challenging routes through quiet, wooded areas. Flood control structures and levees offer scenic vantage points over the water, contrasting with natural rock and forest settings. The park’s flora includes native trees and plants common to eastern Mississippi, supporting a variety of birdlife including geese and small local species often spotted along the shoreline.

Visitors appreciate amenities such as picnic areas, playgrounds for children, and restroom facilities that enhance convenience during longer visits. Bonita Lakes Park also serves as a community gathering spot for casual strolls, evening runs, and peaceful wildlife observation. Evening lighting along the walking path adds to the safe and welcoming atmosphere, making it ideal for relaxing after daylight hours. While some rules limit biking and pets on trails to protect the quiet ambiance, this maintained space remains a distinctive natural landmark in Meridian’s outdoor offerings. Whether stopping for a brief walk or planning an active day, Bonita Lakes Park is a refreshing destination within Mississippi’s gentle landscape.

Editorial Assessment

Bonita Lakes Park scores a moderate rating as it offers enjoyable outdoor activities and natural beauty, but lacks the unique geological or ecological features needed for a higher iconic rating. Speed limit is 15 mph but they drive through there up to 40- 45 playing loud music and smoking weed. The walking tracks supposed to be for walking or running and they are on skateboards and bicycles and they are even bringing there pit bulls and other dogs on the track. There's no presence of police ever there because they don't care !!!

This place is absolutely beautiful, I have a thing with water, so being surrounded by two lakes was great for me. I didn't wanna leave the place when it was time to leave.
