Majestic Mount Elbrus: Russia's Towering Giant

Super chill morning hike, did it with my blind grandma who has arthritis and dementia. Would recommend for a family leisure time, however be aware that it tends to get quite hot up there.

The Caucasus Mountains form the border between Russia and Georgia, so as you approach the mountains, you'll see many checkpoints belonging to the Russian border guards. Bikini-clad hikers appear at the foot of the eastern peak of Mount Elbrus (the western peak is shrouded in clouds). As this area is a ski resort in winter, the gondolas operate even in summer. We took two gondola rides and finally a chairlift to a mountain hut at an altitude of 3700m, ascending 1500m in elevation. As expected, they showed no signs of altitude sickness and, looking perfectly fine, set off on another 400m higher training climb to acclimatize to the high altitude.
