Not to be confused with Mulu Park trails. Gunung Mulu is for serious hikers and nature lovers, a tough 4D3N 48km return trip from Mulu Park HQ. At 2,376m, Gunung Mulu is the 2nd highest mountain in Sarawak, and 5th highest in Malaysia. Camp 1, 3, and 4 provide basic shelter, you must carry rations and supplies for the full 4 days. You will need a permit and a guide. The forest is beautiful and untouched, there’s many rare and endemic plants, as well as squirrels, frogs, and other small wildlife. Mossy forests between camp 3 and 4. You’ll cross 2 major rivers from base to peak, so expect to get your shoes wet! On a clear day, you’ll see Gunung Api and Gunung Benarat from the summit. Overall a very tough but rewarding hike. Day 1: Start from the Mulu Park HQ, hike across 2 rivers to Camp 1, 2 and overnight at Camp 3 (13km, 60m to 1,300m, very steep hike between Camp 1 to 3) Day 2: Hike from Camp 3 to Camp 4 across mossy forests. Overnight at Camp 4 (6km, 1,300m to 1,800m) Day 3: Summit attack at 2am to see sunrise at the peak (1,800m to 2,376m, 10km return trip from Camp 4), then hike back down to Camp 3 (6km). Overnight at Camp 3. Day 4: Hike back to Mulu HQ from Camp 3 (13km).
