Impossible to rate this anything less than 5 stars if you're interested in birding at all - the birdlife at the lodge is spectacular, and there are several other excellent sites a short drive away. The accomodation itself is rustic and simple, but perfectly adequate, with comfortable beds. Staff are friendly and helpful, and everything ran smoothly. We felt very safe and taken care of. The birding guides were always very punctual. Many people visit this lodge as part of a birding tour, but it's perfectly possible to do it yourself by booking directly. The lodge staff will arrange everything for you, from airport transfers to excursions.

Raw Papua New Guinea is simply stunning. Birding with the best guides globally. Really blessed to experience all of this. Kumul lodge should be visited at Serengeti levels. Don't listen to all the negative news out there. Safer than most other tourist destinations.

Very bad organization. Couldn't do any birdwatching tour besides the feeding station where you can see 5 different birds. The manager says that I should talk to the local guides, they tell me I should talk to the manager. When I arrived, there were only the kitchen girls in the lodge and most of the time was like this and they couldn't give you any information. I did 2 walking tours which were beautiful but nothing special to see there. Basically waste of time and money. Rooms dont have warm water which for 450Kina per night is a shame.
