This lake is basically a crater. What was interesting for me , is seeing waves come and go although it is a lake not a sea.

Karakul Lake is the biggest lake in Tajikistan and it is literally called 'Black Lake' in the Kyrgyz language. It is so huge that you can still see the lake even if you drive 30 minutes away from the shore line. It is beautiful during the day and during the sunset hours as well. Even thought the lake is huge, you can only access certain parts of the shore line and you can go to these areas by following the tracks coming out of the main road. The lake doesn't have much facilities like toilets, cafes or restaurants, it is a pure nature lake. It doesn't have any of these at all unless you go to the village. From the village you can also walk to the lake, it takes about 20-30 minutes. If you want to chill and relax by the lake I recommend taking a picnic mat as the ground is not sandy. You can also choose to swim inside the lake but i.thw water is highly saline and cold. Overall the lake is very special as it is huge and towering snow capped mountains surround it on all sides. This creates a landscape that is very scenic and wonderful. It is really a treat to the eyes to visit the lake, drive around it, walk around it, stay near it or even hike around it. I highly recommend visiting!
