About This Adventure Destination

Murray - Sunset National Park, located in Victoria, Australia, is a stunning natural treasure famed for its unique pink lakes. The park is situated in the remote northwest of Victoria, providing a serene getaway from the bustling city life. Known for its vibrant, pink-hued waters, Lake Crosbie, Lake Becking, Lake Kenyon, and Lake Hardy are the showstoppers. This pinkish tint is due to the presence of algae and its interaction with the sun’s rays. These colorful lakes are not just visually striking but also provide insight into this area's rich ecological tapestry. In addition to the mesmerizing lakes, the park is home to a diversity of flora, including saltbushes and endangered native orchids, and a habitat for rare species, such as the malleefowl and black-eared miner. Established in 1991, Murray - Sunset National Park spans over 6,300 square kilometers, offering a mix of arid and semi-arid landscapes. Beyond its visual wonders, the park holds cultural significance, with historical ties to the ancient Aboriginal clans that once thrived here. Visitors are drawn to the park not only for its unique color palette but also for the opportunity to experience a tranquil landscape rich in history and natural beauty.

Please be warned that Lake Crosbie is not a place to go because of the bees. My partner Mary and myself could not sit outside to enjoy a cup of tea without bees up our noses, mouths, food, and our van. We found other campers, who were hiding in their tents because of the bees, had used repellent which only worked for 15 minutes. Mary has a slight allergy to bees stings so it was very worrying. There was no point in staying, we were being swarmed so after an hour we left. Why isn't there a warning on the website about the bees? it would have saved us from driving 100 km out of our way to see the Lakes, which honestly, were not spectacular. I would easily say that the amount of bees is dangerous, especially if you have a bee allergy. Stay away, it is not worth it.

Northern section of Sunset National Park made me furious. Large fences have been placed around the lignum flats. This has always been the Emu hatching area. Now that the emu can not enter there are so many on the properties south of the Mall road. Parks have no idea of management
