Caving Adventures at Parque Nacional Barra Honda

De los parque nacionales mas interesantes que tiene Costa Rica Tiene varios senderos que rodean el parque y el principal que es la caverna, para entrar a ls caverna, le ponen equipo especial e indicaciones para hacer un decenso de alrededor de 20 metros por una escalera vertical Para coordinar tuvimos que contactar por whataspp del parque, cosa que nos fue muy bien ya que por la fecha el tour fue casi orivado ya que fuimos entre semana El trato fue muy bueno y eo conocimiento del guia era muy extenso No pudimos aprovechar mucho el mirador porque en ese momento le estaban haciendo mantenimiento

From the parking lot and entrance where you leave your car, the walk is steep and tiring due to its incline, but with a little physical fitness, it's manageable. The rest of the trail, once you finish the climb, is very flat and winds through the mountains. It's wide, mostly covered by trees, and the viewpoint has a noteworthy structure, perfect for resting and admiring the views.

A month and a half ago, I went to Barrahonda National Park, an excellent experience in a national park with a great variety of wildlife. I had the opportunity to visit Terciopelo Cave, and it's extraordinary. I left Cartago at 2:00 AM and was at the Barrahonda entrance before 7:00 AM. We waited a while to get in, the customer service was excellent, and then I went hiking until I reached the Nacaome viewpoint (spectacular view of the entire Tempisque region and the Gulf of Nicoya). Afterward, we had the opportunity to enter the caves, paying 20,000 colones each, and it was well worth visiting the place. PROS: 1) Road and parking in good condition with ample shade 2) Staff with excellent customer service 3) Prices commensurate with the service provided: 1,130 CRC for park entrance and 20,000 CRC for cave entrance 4) Great variety of wildlife (We saw howler monkeys, silver-billed woodpeckers, various butterflies, iguanas, among others) 5) Spectacular weather 6) Easy trails 7) Good shade along the trail 8) The viewpoint has a small cabin and chairs for relaxing comfortably. I hope to return soon, as it is a natural treasure that few of us know about, and I encourage those who value the environment to visit and protect it.

Beautiful park with extremely kind and helpful staff. Be prepared to walk uphill for at least 4 km if you do not have a 4x4 car to get to the upper parking lots. Well worth it. And do visit the caves if you are fit enough to climb 42 meters down ladders... and back up😁
