This is an excellent location in the harsh surroundings and planned beautifully with almost to perfection. The open shuttle van picks you up at the jetty that is about ten minutes drive from the Hotel. The short journey is a bit rough through the unbuilt road with lots of pot holes and all the way uphill to the destination. The same shuttle is used on the way back to the jetty on the return journey. The accommodation is clean and neat except that we booked a double room through our travel agent but we were given two single beds that were not really comfortable to sleep. The view was great facing the Mekong River but there was a long walk down the slope to our room to appreciate this view. From our room back to the reception and to the restaurant is about ten minutes walk up the hill. But of course you can call a shuttle to take you up there. And that’s not the end of the walk. You have to take plenty of steps to take you up to the swimming pool, reception, and the restaurant. However, the area is well lit at night and the staff are very polite and helpful. The food, drinks and the service is excellent, both at breakfast and at dinner times. In a nutshell - this is not the place to stay if you cannot climb lots of steps, have a back problem or looking for a quick access to your rooms without a shuttle service. Plenty of walk and climbing steps up and down.

Choosing to go for a morning walk at Le Grand Pakbeng and around was a great decision. The air is so fresh and the view of the river and mountains is beautiful. It is very quiet and peaceful in the morning, making it the perfect way to start the day. The kids also really enjoyed spending time in the pool in the afternoon. If you stay here, waking up early for the sunrise and the fresh air is a must-do experience.
