Toddler friendly, in my experience with did the trail along the river which kept my 3yo engaged the full 2 miles and the fire road on the way back ( easy but not as many great views and water interactions available) Plenty of parking but it can get full quickly during the weekend . ( cash and card options available $3)

Cascades Falls is hands down one of my favorite hikes I’ve ever done. From start to finish, the trail is packed with beauty; you walk alongside a creek and cross a few bridges along the way, with amazing boulder and rock formations scattered throughout the hike that make you want to stop and take photos constantly. Then you reach the end, and the waterfall itself is just magnificent. It’s the kind of payoff that makes the whole hike feel worth it, no matter how tired you are by that point. Everything about this trail, the scenery, the terrain, the final destination, comes together perfectly. If you’re looking for one hike to prioritize in the area, make it this one. It’s stunning from beginning to end and easily earns its reputation as a must-do trail. Highly recommend!

It was even more beautiful than the pictures! I brought my 5-year-old to this trail, and we only hiked the upper trail, which was pretty straightforward and kid-friendly. My friends took the lower trail and said it was a little tricky to navigate with kids. I highly recommend wearing water shoes because the rocks in the water were super slippery. We absolutely loved this trail—it’s definitely one of Virginia’s hidden gems! 💦🌿🥾
