The second cave of the two here (the one on the right that is signposted as being "300m away" where the trail diverges) is PHENOMENAL. I've been to dozens of caves in many countries and I can honestly say this is one of the best I've ever been to. It's enormous, can easily fit a jumbo jet in there. It's shaped like a chamber so there's a glorious echo when you call. The formations inside are beautiful and gigantic, like a graveyard for elder gods. And because it's relatively unknown and hard to get to, I had it all to myself! Some words of advice though. 1) Get the headlamp for 10,000 kip from the ticket seller. The cave is so gigantic you won't see anything with just your phone torch; 2) Bring a mask. The chamber can get dusty so you don't want to breathe in the mineral. 3) Pack plenty of water. It's hard going and hot getting to and from the cave. An absolute highlight of not just Vang Vieng but Laos in general!

The caves (Cave II etc.) everyone is talking about in reviews is NOT in this viewpoint area! Was trying to find it over an hour. Tried everywhere, asked locals (for whom Cave II is Buddha). This viewpoint contains the cave, but it's small. It's not bad, but it's not even close to the amazing cave that is nearby. There is also Budda statue, quite interesting passage. For the main attraction in the area - Phapongkham Cave you need to go by the small road in direction to the big mountains, pretty much where signs show, maybe 500m. This area can be found on Google maps as "Phapongkham Cave" (north-east direction from this viewpoint). It's as amazing as people say in this comments, just not sure why they are talking about it here, it's unnecessary confusing. The viewpoint itself is pretty cool, has the hidden passage between both lookouts also, so you don't have to go to crossroads back if you want to do both (we did that in search of the cave, explored it all 😒).
