What You Need to Know * Difficulty: This hike is NOT easy. Day 2 and Day 3 were the hardest for me. Day 4 is very long and challenging after the 10km mark. Day 5 is the easiest and most rewarding. * River Crossings: ABSOLUTELY go at low tide for the Lottering and Bloukrans river mouths. Don't risk it at mid or high tide, as it can be fatal. The Bloukrans River crossing involves a treacherous mountain climb with ropes, which is extremely dangerous when wet. Follow the escape routes if needed. Pros * Stunning Scenery: The views are incredible, with beautiful forests, beaches, lagoons, and rivers. You won't get bored. * Wildlife: We saw otters and plenty of other amazing animals up close. * A True Challenge: This is a difficult but highly rewarding experience that pushes you both physically and mentally. * Comfortable Huts: The huts are well-maintained, clean, and have showers and toilets. * Great Escape: It’s an amazing way to disconnect from everything and reflect. Cons * Inaccurate Information: The briefing was given by someone who hadn't done the trail, and the map we received was outdated and missing signs. * Rubbish: There was unfortunately a lot of litter on the trail. Please pack out what you pack in! * Government Management: For a paid service, the overall organization and "extras" like a finisher's certificate (you only get an email) could be improved. Overall, a 9/10 for the hike itself, but a 3/10 for the management and logistical issues that could easily be fixed. Well worth the cost and effort for the experience!
