Le Morne Brabant

Beautiful, I'm sure the view from the very top is amazing, but the last section is dangerous!!! One wrong step and it's life-threatening!!! There are also some nice views at the last point before the steep climb.

Le Morne Brabant is a very worthwhile hike, especially for the views from the top. If you’ve done some hiking before, I’d rate it as moderate at most; if hiking is not normally your type of activity, the second half may feel quite strenuous. You’ll probably need to use your hands in several places, but there is always something to grip and it never becomes a vertical climb. Access by car is straightforward, although the final roughly 2 km to the starting point is on a dirt road that is not particularly well maintained. It is short enough that it should not be a major issue if you drive carefully. The situation with access to the upper section is much less clear. There is a sign near the beginning saying the second part is closed to everyone, then a gate before the steeper section where guards seem to let some people through while turning others back. Having a guide appears to guarantee access; I didn’t have one and was allowed through without any issue, but I saw other unguided hikers being turned around, so the whole arrangement feels inconsistent and rather fishy. The upper section would also be noticeably harder on wet rock, so if you rarely hike, going just after rain may not be the best idea, although the exposed path should dry fairly quickly. It gets hot and crowded later in the day, so starting early is definitely preferable.

Le Morne Brabant is a majestic 556-meter-high basalt monolith located on the far southwestern tip of Mauritius. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is one of the most iconic, scenic, and historically rich sites on the entire island. Legally, independent access is permitted for much of the mountain. However, local authorities and park management often require the presence of a certified guide to safely negotiate the intermediate plateau and complete the final technical ascent. If you are inexperienced with exposed rock climbing, a guided tour is highly recommended.

Start as an easy hour and half hike then from a certain point on you have to climb up a steep mountain for an 30 min to an hour depending on your speed, but the view is all with it. Climbing down I had to do a crab move. It is alllll worth the view
