About This Adventure Destination

T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, located near Port St. Joe in the Florida Panhandle, offers an exceptional coastal experience along one of the longest and most untouched stretch of white sandy beaches in the United States. This state park guards a slender peninsula extending into the Gulf of Mexico, which creates a natural sanctuary for diverse marine life and coastal ecosystems. The combination of crystal-clear turquoise waters, expansive beaches, and gentle dunes covered in native grasses makes it a unique destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

The park stands out due to the pristine condition of its shoreline, which provides an ideal habitat for shorebirds and sea turtles, particularly loggerhead turtles during nesting season. Beyond the beach, visitors can find salt marshes and coastal scrub habitats rich with native flora and fauna. Kayakers and paddleboarders relish the calm bayside waters that contrast with the dynamic Gulf surf.

Founded as a state park in 1970, it also holds cultural importance with historical ties to early settlers and maritime activity in the region. The park's quiet and undeveloped character offers visitors a chance to disconnect and enjoy nature away from crowded tourist hubs.

Visitors should appreciate the sweeping views across the peninsula’s tip, watch for dolphins offshore, and enjoy the fresh sea breeze. Whether sunbathing on the beach, birdwatching, or taking a peaceful stroll along the shoreline, this park embodies the essence of coastal conservation and recreation in Northern Florida.

Editorial Assessment

This coastal park offers remarkable natural beach scenery and diverse wildlife habitats, making it a wonderful place for water sports and nature observation. While it is a gem of the Florida Panhandle with its long untouched beaches and calm bayside waters, it lacks the rare geological formations or global uniqueness necessary to rank among the top 300 iconic natural landmarks worldwide. It remains a highly recommended destination for visitors seeking a quieter, nature-focused coastal experience.

Our family's go to spot to avoid crowded beaches during the Panama City Beach season. Always clean never crowded, plenty of space and good spots. Has out door showers. Bathrooms are always clean. There is a store that it available. It is worth the drive. Also good shell hunting area.
