The visit is quick but the view is beautiful - the two "wells" should not be confused with craters or calderas, but are rather depressions in the ground formed by underground lava tubes that made the ground soft and, over the years, it slipped until it collapsed.

A pair of massive pit craters or sinkholes known as Los Gemelos are high up in the center of Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos, Ecuador. They formed when the unsupported roofs of huge underground chambers drained by rivers of basaltic lava collapsed inward.
