Mt. Kinabalu is more than just a mountain to us locals, she is a huge part of our culture and spiritual life✨. The hike has so many variation of challenges. The humidity, the heat, exhaustion, being wet, cold, climbing in the dark, the altitude, no matter how fit and experienced you are, it is surely an entertaining climb. Most able bodied individuals who are moderately fit will be able to make it to the top, if not, just to Laban Rata is a good achievement as well :) At the top, the view and the aura is truly amazing. I wish anyone the best as you concur your way to the top, it is absolutely worth it. I will probably do it again, just need to space it out 😅 My guide was the reason I made it to the top, he was so intuitive with the type of support I needed, I couldn’t thank him enough. He was also a great photographer, same caliber as the Bali guides 😂😂 Foreigners are charged differently, locals should not have to pay to same rates. I don’t know where some of the reviewers are getting the confidence to show their entitlement. You do not deserve to pay the same rates, end of story. The base price includes, the climb, 1 night stay, food, the guide and everything else that makes this climb possible. First of all, the price to climb our mountain IS expensive because the cost of living and resources in Sabah IS EXPENSIVE. The steps are built and maintained by our people to make it accessible to as many people as possible. There are toilets and rest houses along the way. When you climb the mountain you will see many porters carrying necessities on their backs, up and down so you can have a cup of coffee and sit in a warm room. Thinking you can climb our mountain without our guides is exactly the behavior that will get you lost in this mountain. You will also see many guards and rangers that are there to ensure your safety. All of this, to make the journey as pleasant as possible and to make sure you get back home to your family safely. Again remember that this mountain is not just a world heritage site for your tourist checklist, many Sabahans including those of older age hike this mountain for spiritual reasons. So how we decide to open our mountain to you, is certainly our choice and you should definitely show some respect. If not, move along, you do not deserve to climb our beautiful Mount Kinabalu.

Climbing Mount Kinabalu was truly one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. From the very beginning of the journey, every moment felt meaningful and rewarding. The cool mountain air, the sound of nature, and the breathtaking scenery created an atmosphere that is both peaceful and inspiring. The trail itself was challenging, but every step was worth it. Along the way, I was surrounded by lush greenery, unique plant species, and stunning views that made me appreciate the beauty of nature even more. The climb tested my physical strength and mental endurance, but it also taught me patience, determination, and resilience. Reaching the summit during sunrise was the highlight of the entire journey. Watching the golden light slowly illuminate the vast landscape below was simply magical. It was a moment of pure satisfaction and gratitude, a reminder of how far I had come and what I was capable of achieving. Beyond the physical adventure, Mount Kinabalu gave me valuable time to reflect, disconnect from daily stress, and reconnect with myself. It was not just a hike, but a personal journey filled with growth, appreciation, and unforgettable memories. Overall, my experience at Mount Kinabalu was incredible. It is a place that challenges you, rewards you, and leaves a lasting impression on your heart. I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking adventure, self-discovery, and a truly meaningful escape into nature.
