The island is nice if you're in the area, but there are much better islands if your schedule allows. Many pickup truck drivers drive dangerously. Prices for food, drinks, and scooter rentals are exorbitant. Furthermore, you have to pay a 200 THB entrance fee to access the island, compared to 40 THB for Thais. This double pricing practice is shameful, especially for people who have been legally living in Thailand for years and can prove it (Thai driver's license, language proficiency, residency). According to Article 26 of the ICCPR (International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights), any discrimination based on national origin is contrary to the principle of equality before the law. The CERD (International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination) concurs by prohibiting discrimination based on national origin. Since Thailand is a State Party to both of these conventions, this practice appears illogical and contrary to the international commitments it has accepted.
