This destination stands out for its stunning cascade streaming over unique basalt columns formed by ancient lava flows, creating a curtain of water that fans out gracefully amidst dense evergreen forests. The trail itself is a moderate 7-mile round trip, winding through shaded woods and along the Sandy River, with occasional views of Mount Hood’s snow-capped peak. One notable challenge and highlight is a river crossing where fallen logs serve as nature’s bridge—a memorable moment for many travelers.

The trail has historical significance dating back to Indigenous peoples and early settlers who used this route, adding a quiet cultural richness to the natural experience. We parked here and went hiking to Ramona Falls. There were restrooms and trash cans near the parking lot. After parking here, you can take the trail, which takes approximately 3-4 hours round trip. As of May 2026, the water pressure at the waterfall was quite good, and you only need to be careful when crossing the river. There are some log-like structures; some people took off their shoes and crossed barefoot, but my friend and I crossed using the logs and almost fell. I recommend bringing water and a packed lunch or snacks, and I hope many Koreans visit this place as well. There are many other beautiful trail courses near Mt. Hood besides this one, so if you are curious about the wild charm of American mountains, you might want to try this place first.

This is a stunning way to get close to the Pacific Crest trail. You can do a lollipop style Loop that's about 7 MI. Its 3 and a half miles each way to the waterfall. I wouldn't call the road 4 wheel drive but I would say that if you don't have high clearance it's going to be pretty scary trying to navigate all the potholes and probably not worth puncturing your oil pan. Parking cost $5 it's a credit card only machine. There's a bathroom made up of two porta potties at the trailhead no running water

Very good hiking trail to Ramona Falls, or convenient access to more remote locations on Mt. Hood. Parking lot is large, but can be busy on weekends. Northwest Forest Pass or similar is required. The river crossing is currently straight-forward, but has shifted from previous years. The big log crossing has shifted to a pair of small bound logs with a larger log handrail. Ascending directly to the falls and descending via the return trail is suggested for a more diverse experience. Round trip distance via the return trail is just under 8 miles. There are some deep potholes on the last bit of the road to the lot, but with caution are easily traversed.

Gorgeous hike. River was passable, with logs set up to cross the deepest, fastest part. DO THE LOOP. It's longer, but very beautiful. Parts of both sides of the loop were hot, without much shade, but they were no more than a half mile at a time. Beautiful. Lollipop loop (out-and-back for the first 1.3 miles, then a loop). The drive in was rough, we were glad we brought our high clearance vehicle, but saw plenty of sedans in the parking lot.
