We thought visiting the park would be a welcome respite from August heat and humidity. WRONG! It seemed more hot and humid there than in the Boston suburb we left. The first hint that something was off was a nearly empty parking lot--you'd expect visitors flocking there. We expected some large signs directing the visitors to the ocean. Nope. We took the largest road from the parking lot that ultimately led us to private houses. Returned to the parking lot and finally found the way. We were curious why a few guests we saw were wearing long pants and shirts in this weather. Then we knew the answer: a tag team of poison ivy flanking the path and the vicious black flies. I can't believe there were kids running on that path. The biggest disappointment greeted us once we got to the ocean. There were supposed to be some of the most beautiful cliffs meeting the pounding surf, etc. Nope again. Just a pile of granite blocks. There were some vertical walls in the quarry lake, but that wasn't why we came. Finally, not even a trash can in the bathroom in the visitor's center. And those port-a-potties? Don't ask.
