About This Adventure Destination

Hidden deep in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains of Colombia, Ciudad Perdida, or the Lost City of Teyuna, offers an unparalleled journey through time and nature. This ancient city, older than Machu Picchu, serves as a magnificent testament to the indigenous Tayrona civilization that flourished between the 11th and 14th centuries. The Lost City is a wonder of terraced steps and platforms rising amidst dense, verdant jungle, surrounded by majestic peaks shrouded in mist. Visitors are greeted by the symphony of nature – the calls of birds, the rustling leaves, and distant waterfalls. While reaching the Lost City requires a challenging multi-day trek, the rewards are immense. Along the way, trekkers encounter unique flora and fauna, including vibrant orchids and elusive wildlife like toucans and monkeys. A cultural narrative accompanies the journey, as indigenous communities inhabit the region, preserving their traditions and knowledge of the sacred land. The Lost City is not just a destination but a profound immersive experience where history, culture, and landscape converge, attracting adventurers from across the world.

Editorial Assessment

The Lost City is a fascinating blend of historical significance and natural beauty, offering a unique experience in the remote mountains. However, its relative inaccessibility and the fact that it is not as well-known globally keep it from a higher score.

An incredible experience and amazing organization by Teyuna Tours. If you want to do the trek, choose this company. First, because of the service. They were always attentive to our needs; all the staff were incredibly friendly, both during the hikes and in the evenings when we arrived and they sat down to chat with us. Our guide, Jorge Maldonado, understood our pace and preferences from the start and made it all possible. The facilities are the same for all participants, but Teyuna makes sure to provide comfortable beds and good food. The food deserves special mention. They cooked generous portions, and everything was delicious. They always included thoughtful touches like snacks at the end of the hike, fruit juices, and chocolates for dessert. Even upon arriving at the Lost City, they prepared an amazing breakfast for us there. Thank you to the kitchen team for that. Second, because you'll be choosing a responsible, local company, owned by the guides themselves, who were committed to creating the business and are actively training to manage it effectively. And third, because of the guides' extensive knowledge of the area. They know many spots along the trail where you can discover hidden gems. Our guide took us to an incredible waterfall where we were all alone and could enjoy a refreshing swim before lunch. A top-notch experience with a top-notch company. They are also the local partner of Baquianos, a multinational company that trusts them to run these tours.
