The Courthouse Butte Loop Trail is a 3.9-mile loop located near Bell Rock, a short 15-minute drive from Sedona’s downtown area. Its trailhead is accessible from the Bell Rock Vista and Pathway parking lot, which requires a Red Rock Pass or America the Beautiful Pass for parking. This loop circles the towering Courthouse Butte and provides excellent views of nearby formations like Bell Rock.

The trail is easily accessible, well-marked, and features diverse terrain, including compact dirt paths, sandy stretches, and some rocky sections ideal for light climbing or bouldering. 2. Climbing Highlights Although the loop isn’t primarily a climbing trail, there are sections where you can incorporate light climbing or scrambling. One popular spot is a series of short rock faces off the trail with views of Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock. For serious climbers, Courthouse Butte itself offers technical routes; however, a permit may be required. Always verify conditions with local rangers.

Connecting Trails If you're seeking an extended adventure, portions of the Courthouse Butte Loop intersect with the Big Park Loop Trail and Llama Trail, allowing you to tailor your hike or climb to your fitness and time.

The name “Courthouse Butte” stems from its courthouse-like shape. According to local lore, the area was sacred to the Yavapai people, who believed the towering buttes and formations held spiritual significance. During early mornings, you may spot coyotes or mule deer.
