The scenery of Shimonuma is beautiful, and there is also a cafe where you can enjoy the scenery slowly. It is a bit too cold now on 25/11.

During the fall foliage season, I walked from Naruko Onsen Station - side dish shop (purchased rice balls) - Mt. Kurumigatake - Mt. Nakanodake (good view) - Katanuma parking lot - Takinoyu - Naruko Onsen Station (see attached map). It takes about 3 hours, including a break at Mt. Nakanodake (there is a bench). It was a fun hike amidst the autumn leaves starting to change color and the smell of sulfur. The mountain trail was well-maintained and not in rough condition, but it was almost a direct climb and a steep slope. There is a sign saying "Beware of bears", so it's a good idea to be prepared with hiking shoes and bear protection (bells, etc.). There is a restroom in the Katanuma parking lot. I relieved my fatigue at Taki-no-Yu (the oldest public bath in Naruko, a sulfur spring). Bathing fee is ¥300, there are 2 baths, the front part is high temperature (about 42 degrees Celsius), the back part is low temperature (about 40 degrees Celsius), and soap and shampoo cannot be used.
