About This Adventure Destination

Big Soddy Creek Gulf, located near Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, offers visitors a refreshing glimpse into the natural beauty of the Cumberland Plateau region. This outdoor destination is well-known for its gently flowing creek, impressive waterfalls, and rugged rocky landscapes that create an inviting backdrop for nature lovers. The area stands out for its wide, mostly flat gravel trail that follows the creek’s edge, making it accessible to hikers of all experience levels, families, and even strollers. The creek itself boasts clear pools ideal for wading or cooling off on warm days, while the surrounding formations offer a pleasing contrast between dense forest and weathered rock outcrops.

The trail’s length and gentle grade make it a favorite for casual strolls, with natural swimming spots scattered along its course. One unique geological feature includes the smooth sandstone formations bordering the creek, shaped over centuries by erosion. Visitors often highlight the calming sound of the waterfall combined with the occasional splash from creek visitors, crafting a peaceful atmosphere. While perfect for quiet reflection or family outings, caution is advised near steeper edges along the creek banks, especially for children. The presence of porta-potties at main parking areas offers added convenience, which is appreciated given the popularity of the site.

Big Soddy Creek Gulf has evolved from a lesser-known local treasure to a cherished spot welcoming outdoor enthusiasts year-round. Early morning visits are particularly rewarding as mist hovers above the water and wildlife activity increases, allowing visitors to enjoy the creek’s charms before the crowds arrive.

Editorial Assessment

Big Soddy Creek Gulf is a wonderful spot for nature enthusiasts and offers a great experience with its picturesque trails and waterfalls. However, it lacks the global recognition that the most iconic landmarks possess.

Started raining so only a few hundred yards into the family nature trail. There's also 2 parking lots. I figured that out after parking in 1st one that was a little further.

Great spot for walking along the river or swimming in some spots, fishing. Nice place for many things. Showing your lil one nature, flowers, ect. Just FYI if you have youngins, you wanna keep them close in some spots especially the beginning. We held on to her tight the 1st time. The river was high & its steep on 1 edge for a bit. But you can stay on the other side. & brought a wagon the 2nd time. Beautiful location! Over the winter there was a few porta potties there & i remember thinking thats great. Cuz its very busy. Last time only 1. Guess that is part of cutting our nature resources..

Beautiful place! I highly recommend this flat, mostly shaded, wide, gravel path following the creek. Great for beginners and kids, or anyone looking for a peaceful stroll. It is a out and back trail, so you can turn around at any time.
