Editorial Assessment

While Flying Mountain Trailhead offers stunning views and a rich natural experience, it is more of a hidden gem rather than an iconic global landmark. It is perfect for those seeking a scenic, peaceful hike, but it doesn't possess the worldwide renown of higher-rated natural wonders.

Good, steep climb to view of the sound. Lovely even in the fog. Cove at 3/4 way through hike is a highlight. Enjoy red squirrels, birds, caterpillars, and other critters.

Very little elevation gain for a great view. Rating moderate instead of easy due to the short rock scramble on way up if you go counterclockwise. Great views of Somes Sound and then down to a tiny beach. Parking lot is small only fits probably 8 or so cars.
