The rugged, uneven rocks amidst the muddy water are slippery and make it easy to lose one's footing, so a walking stick is essential. With its massive, majestic red rock mountains, cool valley waters, refreshing waterfalls, and clouds harmonizing beautifully with the trees, this place was absolutely perfect for sightseeing and photography.

Simply stunning! A must-see if you’re going to Zion. There is a free shuttle that takes you up to where the hike starts so park at the visitor center and take the bus up to the last stop. They constantly have buses coming and going so there’s no wait. Be prepared and you’ll have the best time! Absolutely bring shoes for walking in water if you want to continue to trek up the river at the end of the hiking path. I highly recommend hiking sandals with a good grip. I wouldn’t wear regular hiking boots or anything else. You don’t want soggy wet feet. Definitely purchase or bring a good hiking stick or pole. It will really help you navigate the rocks in the water and keep you steady. Pack light. I suggest a camelback for water. I also suggest a waterproof bag or casing for your phone as I dropped mine a few times. Pack a couple good hiking snacks. Hat and sunscreen. We didn’t have issues with bugs but we went in August. The temp outside was in the 90s but the water temperature was probably in the 70s. Not too cold personally and very refreshing. I brought a lifestraw (they did not work unfortunately) but next time I’d recommend bringing a water bottle that has a filter and trying some water fresh from the many springs that are dripping down the sides of the mountains! We saw many creatures…snakes, squirrels, deer, turkeys. The squirrels are oddly friendly but do not feed them or touch them as they might bite. So many beautiful plants. I was surprised at the plethora of maiden hair ferns growing on the sides of the rocks. We spent a good 5 hours walking the 1 mile trail to the “narrows” and trekking up the river. One thing I found interesting is non-US residents are charged $100-250 to enter Zion. Veterans and military get a free lifetime national parks pass so bring your military ID. There was no cell service for T-Mobile
