We didn't check this park out before arriving. That's certainly on us because when we arrived the tent pad was in awful condition. We drove around looking for any other suitable spot and noticed the entire lake was "full". We weren't even allowed to fish when walking in despite camping at the park. The only reason I wanted to come to this park was the zipline, which by the way is only open weekends. We asked for a refund and went to a park we are familiar with and enjoy but upon leaving the Ranger blessed us with knowledge that "Oconee only has a pond." His ability to identify bodies of water is impeccable.

Located in Sunset, South Carolina, this park is special place! The lake has deep blue lake waters with the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountain foothills as a backdrop drop. This park protects some special resources such as the waters, flora, fauna and historic lands once walked by the Cherokee Nation. This park was part of the Cherokee trade route and the park does are great job explaining the history in their old historical church information and office center. They have many displays which are very informative. Be sure and check out the large three dimensional map. It also points out where the water falls are too. This park has stunning views and some wonderful hiking trails. The information center used to be the Holly Springs Baptist Church which was established in 1837 and the building itself was built in 1890. The building was donated the State of South Carolina. I love how the building was repurposed.
