Great destination! Enjoyed the open trail and peaceful outdoor atmosphere.

We enjoyed our tour and gathered a new respect for the delicate balm e of man to nature. No crocs to see, left the boat to see 7 monkeys, saw birds. Biggest take away was William our guides love for nature & his country. Worth the money but don’t get your hopes up on seeing anything spectacular other than the beauty of the estuary!

I had a negative experience with Tamarindo estuary tours today unfortunately. I was given a number to a man named Daniel who is with this company, referenced from my air bnb manager. He was willing till give a $5 discount to my young kids as I felt paying full price for them was a bit pricey. I asked him a few questions about what to expect on the tour, and if it’s better to go at high tide or low tide and he left a very upset voice message with me, simply for asking questions (as anyone new in CR would). That should have been my sign to CANCEL but I was being too nice and I called him to apologize which I regret doing. I thought we were on good terms after that. Well boy was I wrong as he clearly passed this message on to his cousin David who was our tour guide. It was obvious he had a bad impression of me as he did not treat me very nice in the beginning. When he first saw us by the river there was no “Hi, how are you”, nothing, no friendliness toward me which is funny because I’m actually really friendly. He had no problem shaking my mother in law’s hand when I introduced both of us, but she wasn’t the “bad guy” asking simple questions about the tour. My father in law and husband were running a bit late as they went to retrieve something from our air bnb. I apologized as there was a nice couple already on the boat. No response from David. He was knowledgeable during the tour, but he made multiple snide remarks on the way. He said he knew there were some customers who wanted to see crocodiles and “look how hard we are working to make our customers happy”. Like really, who says that? When he spotted a small crocodile on the mud he said “Now I don’t feel pressure.” Like what? Why these people had this false sense of pressure is beyond me. I told him “There was never any pressure, I was just asking about what wildlife we would see.” I would have confronted him more and asked why they were so upset with me for simply asking questions but I didn’t want to make my family or the young couple feel awkward. He did give everyone pineapple and juice boxes for the kids but my guess is that he does that for everyone. At the end of the ride I said good bye to the couple as they were very friendly and I tried saying thank you to David but he didn’t take one look at me. At that point I was glad to be done with them. If they were so upset with me they shouldn’t have booked with me but clearly they were more interested in taking my money and treating me rudely. Overall the tour wasn’t that interesting as I had been warned on Facebook. My kids thought it was boring. My elderly in laws enjoyed it more but they are into slow going things. I should have taken the advice on social media and made the long drive to Palo Verde National park where there is much more wildlife. I have attached screenshots of my text exchange with Daniel, and although you can’t hear his upset voice message, you can see I was just asking some questions and nothing I said justified their hostility towards me.

David is great and he knows all about the birds and animals of Costa Rica! We recommend this tour and David as the guide. He cares about his customers. Small group which made it even better! Book your trip with David. You will not be disappointed!

I just did the Tamarindo boat estuary tour, and it was a wonderful experience! Our guide was David. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything we saw in terms of animals, mangroves, and the estuary itself. We saw lots of impressive animals from some impressive birds to howler monkeys, raccoons and crocodiles, thanks to David's good eye to spot them. The route we went by boat was also very beautiful and we learned lots of cool information. I totally recommend this tour with David as a guide!
