This is a scandal. I am European and all this shocks me. This hotel (NIHI SUMBA) blocks all access to the beach for those who do not stay in their hotel at 20 million Indonesian rupees per night (minimum). The hotel privatizes a public place into a private one accessible only to very rich tourists. I've spoken with locals who have had tears in their eyes, explaining that this is simply corruption and that they feel powerless in front of wealthy American investors. The locals are fighting to get the beach back, but nobody listens because it's all about money they don't have.
