About This Adventure Destination

In the heart of Tempe, Arizona, stands a striking natural feature known as Tempe Butte, or more fondly, "A Mountain". Its prominence amidst the urban setting makes it a unique and beloved landmark. This geological marvel, composed of sedimentary rock, presents a stunning contrast to the bustling cityscape surrounding it. Rising approximately 1,495 feet above sea level, Tempe Butte offers panoramic views that captivate both locals and visitors alike.

The butte's trails weave through indigenous desert flora, offering explorers a first-hand experience of Arizona's distinct environment. Home to various cacti and hardy shrubs, the landscape is a testament to nature's resilience in the arid climate. Additionally, Tempe Butte holds cultural significance, with its history intertwined with the indigenous peoples of the region. The iconic "A" on the mountainside represents Arizona State University and is a celebrated symbol of local pride.

For those who appreciate the fusion of nature and history, Tempe Butte promises an intriguing journey. Its trails are not only avenues for physical adventure but also pathways through time, echoing stories of ancient residents and modern traditions.

Editorial Assessment

Tempe Butte is a captivating natural site in an urban setting. Its combination of easily accessible trails, historical significance, and scenic views make it a worthwhile destination. However, it lacks the global uniqueness needed for a higher rating.

Great place to hike, not to challenging and has safety rails. I once climbed up from the side without using the trail it was extremely challenging. (Don't be an idiot like me it's dangerous.)

It not a long trail but it's got some great incline. I took my 3 yr old, an 8 yr old and a 12 yr old. We took a short break halfway up at one of the look outs, then continued all the way to the top. On the way down, they had fun hanging out around the big A.
