> "Mount Penanggungan (often called Mount Pawitra) is one of East Java's favorite hiking destinations, offering the perfect combination of natural beauty, historical tourism, and relatively friendly trails for both beginners and those seeking a weekend break. One of the most popular and recommended routes is via Tamiajeng, thanks to its well-maintained access, relative safety, and excellent basecamp facilities. > What makes Mount Penanggungan so special and different from other mountains is its nickname, "the mountain of a thousand temples." Along the hiking trail to the summit, you'll encounter various ancient sites and ruins of Hindu-Buddhist temples, relics of the past, all of which hold significant historical value. Besides being rich in historical learning, the panoramic views are also extraordinary. Upon arriving at the Pawitra Peak area, you'll be treated to the expanse of the surrounding mountain landscape—such as the majestic Mount Arjuno-Welirang complex—and the sparkling city lights in the distance at night. The atmosphere is truly magical and a perfect way to unwind from the daily grind." > Tips and Important Climbing Information: * Route Selection: The Tamiajeng Route is the best choice for beginner climbers because the terrain is clear, not too extreme, and there are many logistics stalls at the rest posts. * Logistics Management: Bring plenty of drinking water as some parts of the hiking trail are quite exposed and hot during the day. Also, be sure to bring a change of clothes and a warm jacket as the winds at the summit can be quite strong. * Ethics and Conservation: Given the numerous ancient sites along the route, climbers are required to maintain environmental sustainability, are prohibited from damaging or defacing the rocks at the sites, and are required to bring back any personal trash. * Visiting Time: The preferred time for climbers is to leave early in the morning to avoid the heat of the sun, or climb in the afternoon if they plan to set up camp to enjoy the sunset and sunrise from the summit. > "Overall, Mount Penanggungan offers a complete adventure experience: exciting trekking, authentic traces of ancient history, and top-class natural scenery that are well worth the visit." >

My second hike is up Mount Penanggungan. My feet are wrecked. The trail from Post 1 to Post 3 is okay. But the path to the summit is far too steep.
