Tufi is a terrific place to decompress pre or post your PNG trip. The private Tropic Air charter that takes you there is under the same ownership as the lodge so, unlike Ajr Niugini, they’ll get you there with no cancellations or long delays. Flying back to POM, you get the world’s quickest check in right at the resort. You can even dip your breakfast coffee as you check in before returning to your eggs. Ms. Honey responds to all correspondence promptly and helpfully. Once there, the resort and dive staff are delightful. The food is good and they cater to vegetarians, etc. The WIFI is the common area is fast and free. The location of the resort set atop fjords dropping into the Solomon Sea is very beautiful. The diving and snorkeling are fabulous. Healthy reefs with lots of fish and pelagics. Tufi used to be a US PT boat base in WW2. Hence, you can dive on war relics such as PT boats (47 meters) as a free house reef dive. There are also two deep bombers. But these are 3 hours by boat each way and hence prohibitively expensive for one diver at 10,000 Kina. I’ll now need to come back when I know there’s a group who wants to dive those wrecks. A magical place!
