Spectacular Views: Pha Nguen Trailhead

I walked here from town, it's not far but it's dusty. In March 2025, the fee to climb the mountain is 20k kip. Watch out for local kids, a couple of them started following me here asking for money. Don't give money to random kids, there's a ticket booth at the trailhead. Fun little trail, might be hard if you're not used to hiking. Took me 30mins to the first viewpoint and 25mins to the second. You can buy water and other drinks at the 1st viewpoint for 35-40k kip.

Walkable from town if you want to move. Viewpoint one has the buggy and is gorgeous. Viewpoint two is just calming but may be a bit much for some people. I watched the vendor at viewpoint 1 hike with a bucket to her back and make her way full of drinks! I had to buy a drink because how can you not support that!

Great hike. Very steep. Come prepared, bring water, good shoes and maybe blister band aids! And money; cause Entrance fee is 20.000 KIP per person! There are three stops to the top: a shielded wooden platform after 30minutes of hiking, shaded in the jungle with a hole in the brush allowing you to overview the opposing mountain. Second stop is when you reach a plateau on top of the “first mountain”, allowing you a beautiful 360 degree view over the valley. It’s amazing. It’s also here you’ll find the buggy to take photos in. You can also buy chips or sodas here, while enjoying the view. If you continue (which we didn’t) you climb even further up and supposedly get an even more extraordinary view, from a small wooden hut on a platform.
