About This Adventure Destination

Brasstown Falls, located near the quaint city of Westminster in South Carolina’s Oconee County, is a peaceful natural attraction celebrated for its trio of cascading waterfalls. These falls cascade gracefully over rocky ledges, offering visitors a visual feast of rushing water and tranquil forest surroundings. This area stands out because it offers diverse waterfall views within a compact trail system, allowing visitors of most ages and hiking levels to enjoy the scenery without a strenuous effort.

The site features three distinct falls: the Upper Falls, which drops dramatically into a clear plunge pool; the Middle Falls, an ideal spot for photography with its gentle flow and charming backdrop; and the Lower Falls, where softer cascades encourage visitors to pause and absorb the calming atmosphere. These falls are part of the Sumter National Forest, which brings ecological richness to the region with its lush vegetation, including wildflowers and mature hardwoods. The geological foundation of layered bedrock adds texture and form to the cascading water, enhancing the visual appeal.

While the falls are less crowded than many regional attractions, making for a quiet retreat, visitors should note that some trail sections were recently impacted by Hurricane Helene and might be partially closed or temporarily inaccessible. The area’s quiet natural setting invites both relaxation and outdoor recreation. Brasstown Falls’ ease of access combined with its scenic charm makes it a special outdoor destination in the upstate region of South Carolina.

Editorial Assessment

Brasstown Falls is a beautiful natural spectacle with multiple scenic waterfalls. Its accessibility and serene environment make it a must-visit for those exploring South Carolina's natural beauties, although it doesn’t reach the higher iconic status due to lesser global recognition.

It was an easy to moderate hike to see all three waterfalls. There were pools at the top and bottom you could wade and swimming in. All three falls were beautiful and completely different. The viewing platforms were a great location for pictures along the way!!
