Capacity & Rules

Maximum capacity is enforced by headcount and includes all adults, children, infants, and pets over 15 lbs. Boats may only be used on Grand Lake; Shadow Mountain Lake is off-limits. Towing of water toys is prohibited.

What type of license do I need to rent a boat?

A regular government-issued driver's license is sufficient; no separate boater's license is required to rent a boat in Colorado.

Can rentals access Shadow Mountain Lake?

No. Motor boat and paddle-sport rentals are not permitted to enter Shadow Mountain Lake.

Can we tow water toys behind the boat?

No. Towing of water toys, skis, or wakeboards behind a rental boat is not permitted.

Do you have PFDs (life jackets) for children?

Yes. The operator provides PFDs; if you bring your own, it must be U.S. Coast Guard approved.

Can we load the boat over its stated capacity?

No. Capacities are strictly enforced and passenger count is by headcount, including children and dogs over 15 lbs.
