On Lone Star Ranch just southeast of downtown Austin, a network of trails threads through more than 600 acres of forest, meadows, hills and a ribboning creek. The ranch frames a focused learning ride: a group lesson that pairs on-trail instruction with the open, sweep‑out views and frequent wildlife sightings that make Texas winter breaks worth the saddle time.

Outing Highlights

THE LANDSCAPE

A 600+‑acre ranch of forests, meadows and creekside trails

Riders traverse a varied ranch landscape—woodland corridors, open meadows, rolling hills and a creek—making the lesson as much about place as about skill development.

THE LESSON

Guided group instruction with full gear and tack supplied

Each booking includes a guided trail lesson led by a riding instructor; helmets, horse and tack rental are provided so riders arrive ready to learn in the covered rodeo arena before heading out.

THE ACCESS

Private ranch access and family-friendly pace

The experience runs on private ranchland and is tuned for families and mixed-ability groups, with instructors and staff focused on safety and a measured trail pace.

What the day feels like

What the ride feels like

The flow is deliberate: arrive early for a 30‑minute check‑in and orientation in the covered rodeo arena, don helmets and tack provided by the ranch, then set out as a group for a 1.5‑hour lesson that mixes skill coaching with easygoing trail time through woods, meadows and along the ranch creek.

Suitability

Who it's for

Who this lesson is best for — and who should look elsewhere.

1
Active FamiliesWell suited: children 5 and older can ride (each child on their own horse) but minors must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or older on the ride.
2
Beginner RidersA good match: the format is a guided group lesson with an instructor and provided helmets and tack, designed to teach skills on trail rather than a technical endurance ride.
3
Large GroupsPossible but limited: groups larger than five should call ahead to arrange; otherwise standard bookings are sized for smaller group lessons.
4
People with Weight or Medical RestrictionsNot ideal for those over the 250 lb weight limit or for pregnant participants; individuals must be physically fit to mount, dismount and complete the ride.
