Outing Highlights
Pōwhiri, Wānanga and Kōrero
The retreat opens with a pōwhiri at Maheatai on sacred Ngāti Kahu land and continues with dawn wānanga at the Kupe Waka Centre, gatherings at the Kapehu Whetū star compass and workshops in Whare Whetū Mārama — a program of traditional navigation, carving, waka legacy and evening kapa haka and storytelling.
Rongoā, Mirimiri and the Wellness Marquee
A central Wellness Marquee offers rongoā Māori (plant medicine), mirimiri and romiromi massage therapies, sauna relaxation and stalls run by local whānau, with daily kōrero on maramataka — how lunar phases guide wellbeing, kai and navigation.
From 90 Mile Beach to Tāne Mahuta
Travel along Hukatere sands on 90 Mile Beach to Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga), swim and picnic at Tapotupotu Bay, enjoy a premium lunch and tasting at Karikari Estate, and on the final day visit Tāne Mahuta in the Waipoua Forest.
What the day feels like
What the retreat feels like
The program is paced as a moving retreat: early departures from Auckland give way to communal arrival in Taipa, a formal pōwhiri and a Wellness Marquee that runs through full days of plant‑medicine sessions, massage and optional coastal activities. Interspersed are concentrated cultural learning sessions — dawn wānanga, star‑compass kōrero and hands‑on workshops — then a day of wide coastal travel to Cape Reinga and a final inland return via the Hokianga and Waipoua Forest.
