Over approximately eight hours the itinerary moves from a panoramic visit to the monumental Tule Tree to intimate workshops in Teotitlán del Valle, then on to Mitla’s finely ornamented ruins. An optional stop at a local palenque (for example Don Agave on the route to Mitla) offers a look at mezcal production and the chance to taste varieties like reposado, añejo, pechuga and mezcal creams. The outing finishes with the otherworldly calcified cascades of Hierve el Agua before returning to the hotel.
