Munkstigen is a long, airy via ferrata on the Vanvikan side of Trøndelag that threads forest, open granite and exposed rock faces to reach one of the region’s finest viewpoints over Trondheim and the Trondheimsfjord. The route takes you past named features — Katedralen, Nonnekløfta, Zebraveggen and the Toppveggen — offering sustained climbing and memorable lookouts along the way.

Beginning from a short walk in from the Hindrum Fjordsenter parking, the route rises through trees and increasingly exposed terrain. Early sections are undulating and manageable; after a small forest plateau the climb becomes markedly steeper at Katedralen. From there the route alternates confined chimney-like passages and open granite slabs, with traverses on Zebraveggen and a final wall before the summit viewpoint that looks back toward Trondheim.
