Over three days and two nights on the Sandringham coast you’ll move beyond basic paddling: guided instruction and hands-on practice will consolidate skills in winds, tides and chart-reading, teach campsite and camp-kitchen technique, and hand you the tools to plan and lead your own sea‑kayak expedition — all under expert supervision and with the option to log this experience toward Paddle Australia qualifications.

Outing Highlights

THE SKILLS

Earn Practical Sea‑Kayak Competence

This expedition focuses on consolidating core sea‑kayaking skills and building confidence: navigation, loading and waterproofing craft, and group leadership practices that can be counted toward Paddle Australia assessment.

THE CAMP

Expedition Camping & Camp‑Kitchen Technique

You’ll develop kayak‑camping skills including menu planning, food preparation, use of portable stoves and low‑impact shelter techniques such as tarpaulin systems for sun or rain.

THE ROUTE

Planning to Paddle: Wind, Tide and Channel Negotiation

Instruction emphasizes route planning around tidal influence and weather, and on‑water skills for ferry gliding and negotiating protruding headlands, constrictions and shipping channels under guide supervision.

What the day feels like

How the expedition feels

The three‑day flow blends classroom‑style briefing and route planning with coached time on the water and hands‑on nights of kayak camping: you meet with guides for a pre‑departure briefing, then plan and paddle elected routes with instructor support, practice food preparation and campsite setups, and return on Day 3 with time for packing and debrief — all paced around wind, tide and weather.

Suitability

Who it's for

Who this expedition suits — and two operational requests to note.

1
Active Teens & Adults (16+)This program requires participants to be at least 16 years old and is therefore suited to older teens and adults able to manage expedition tasks.
2

3
Independent, Cooperative Team MembersBecause the operator asks for vehicle‑assistance from the group, travelers who can cooperate with team logistics and shuttle duties are a good fit.
4
Candidates for CertificationThose pursuing a Paddle Australia enclosed sea skills qualification will find this experience aligns with course practical requirements; participants should meet the operator's age and participation expectations.
