Classroom Session — Day 1 Morning
The first day begins in the classroom promptly at 9:00 a.m. and runs until lunch with shore-side instruction on terminology, parts, and basic seamanship.
On-the-Water Practice — Day 1 Afternoon
After lunch students go out on the water to practice rigging, sail handling, tacks and jibes in light to moderate winds and sea conditions.
Boat Session & Drills — Day 2
On the second day the class meets on one of the boats promptly at 9:00 a.m. for further on-water training, including a person-overboard drill and consolidation of helm and sail-handling skills.
No prior sailing experience is required to enroll; by course completion students should be able to demonstrate the ability to sail a sloop-rigged keelboat (~20–27 ft) by day in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. Auxiliary power operation is not included in this course.
