Duration is 6–8 hours. Morning typically features the Narrows Bottom-Up hike with afternoon visits to Emerald Pools and other viewpoints. Wading conditions and clothing recommendations vary by season.
Bring a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, day pack, layers, camera, hat, and sturdy hiking shoes or boots (or tennis shoes with good tread). Pack a lunch; gratuity for guides is customary. For the Narrows, renting specialized gear is strongly recommended; if you don’t rent, bring a solid wooden walking stick or trekking poles and wear clothes you can get wet. Wading pants are required October through June.
First stop: Springdale hotels. Second stop: paid parking at Zion Outfitter—these are the standard meet points before entering the park.

Do I need to tip my guide?
Tipping is not required but is appreciated. A common guideline is 10–20% of the trip cost, split between guides, depending on the level of service.
Do I need special gear for hiking the Narrows?
Yes—renting appropriate Narrows gear is strongly recommended. If you don’t rent, bring a sturdy wooden walking stick or trekking poles you can put weight on, wear secure, slip-resistant shoes and clothes you’re okay getting wet; wading pants are required from October through June.
