Highlights
Outing Highlights
Core paddle strokes you’ll practice
The course concentrates on the strokes paddlers use most: low brace, forward stroke refinement, reverse stroke, forward and reverse sweep, stern rudder and sculling draw.
Hands-on rescue techniques
In addition to stroke work, the primer covers the most-used rescues: the assisted T-rescue, cowboy/cowgirl self-rescue, and the paddle-float self-rescue.
Equipment included and on-site guidance
Venture Outdoors provides a kayak, paddle and PFD free of charge for the class; if an instructor judges a participant’s own kayak unsafe or inappropriate for the lesson, they may require use of an operator kayak.
What the day feels like
What the course feels like
The session is fast-paced and hands-on: shore briefings lead straight into on-water drills where instructors move between paddlers refining technique, then transition into repeated rescue practice so strokes and safety skills are learned in the conditions in which you’ll use them.
