The Kayak Trail Tour is a concise, guided introduction to Tarpon Bay. Led by an experienced naturalist, paddlers move through the mangrove forest along the Commodore Creek Trail to learn about the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge, its red mangroves and the wading birds and other wildlife that live there; after the guided segment paddlers may keep the kayak for the remainder of the day at no extra charge to explore within Tarpon Bay.

Paddlers follow the Commodore Creek Trail through an intimate mangrove canopy, moving close to red mangroves and the sheltered channels that define Tarpon Bay.

The tour is designed for close but respectful viewing: expect wading birds and other refuge wildlife while enjoying the calm, restorative hush of the mangrove forest.
Keep the Kayak for the Day
After the 90‑minute guided paddle participants are permitted to keep the kayak for the remainder of the day free of charge, with the condition that paddling remains within Tarpon Bay and the campus area.

The guided segment runs 1 hour and 30 minutes. Participants meet at the Tarpon Bay launch (900 Tarpon Bay Rd, Sanibel) before departure.
All participants 18 years and older must sign the operator’s general release of liability waiver prior to departure; children do not need to sign but must be listed. Stay aware of operator requirements at check‑in.
Tours are conducted in double kayaks unless your group is an odd number (the odd paddler will be placed in a single); after the guided portion paddlers may keep the kayak for the remainder of the day free of charge if they remain within Tarpon Bay. If tours are fully booked, renting a kayak is an option.
