Outing Highlights

THE FLEET

Chicago’s largest single & double kayak fleet

Kayak Chicago operates the city’s largest fleet of single and double recreational kayaks, with a shop on the north branch that supplies everything you need for an urban paddle.

THE WILDLIFE

Paddling the Wild Mile

The Wild Mile offers surprising pockets of urban nature—ducks, turtles, beaver and birds—before the river opens into the downtown canyons.

THE SIGHTLINES

Canyons of glass and the Wolf Point confluence

From downtown you’ll paddle between historic bridges and towering architecture toward Wolf Point, where the branches of the Chicago River meet and route options open toward the lake or south through the Loop and Chinatown.

What the day feels like

What an hour on the river feels like

You launch from the north-branch shop and slip downstream into a compact, varied riverscape: quiet, wildlife-filled channels of the Wild Mile, the low-slung industrial edges of Goose Island, then the framed vistas and busy bridges of the downtown confluence at Wolf Point. The pace is recreational—some athletic effort helps, but no prior experience is required for the standard recreational kayaks—allowing for short explorations and skyline views within a single hour.
